Light Before the Storm

The light this entire past week has been strange – hazy, ominous, and almost oppressive. Despite usually trying to avoid leaving the apartment when it looks so uncertain outside, I finally ventured out Sunday (nerd glasses and all) to meet my friend and her husband for brunch. We went to a new Soho spot called Comodo, a Latin fusion restaurant described on their website as "New York with an accent." I found out after the meal that they are also trying out a new Instagram menu, which I obviously contributed to happily and unknowingly. The menu is varied and unusual, but delicious and for the time being, the restaurant is BYOB, making lazy, boozy brunches that much more fun (and cheaper).

My shoes are from J.Crew, a store that I've been paying a lot of attention to recently. As the days get darker, I've been trying to incorporate more lights and brights into my outfits and their recent string of extra 30% off sale promotions hasn't hurt my wallet or my wardrobe.

My friend decided to go healthy and ordered the 'Quinoa meal'– classic oatmeal using quinoa instead of oats. Meanwhile, my boyfriend and I figured that it's probably our last good meal before the hurricane and went all out. Pork belly hash cilantro pasta for me and duck fat fried rice with duck breast for him.
